Here’s a great opportunity to get involved in Austin at Art Outside:
Hushed galleries. White walls. “Inside” voices. That’s one way to experience art. But Art Outside 2009 is looking to change that. If you are a visual artist, performer, musician, dancer, comic, filmmaker, crafter, fashion designer, or a creative spirit of any sort – we are looking for you to participate this October 9-11th.
One of Texas’ most anticipated annual art events, Art Outside is a three-day experience for art lovers, families, DIY junkies and avid concert-goers. You’ll perform or display your work in the environs of Apache Pass, located just East of Austin and centered between Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. With over 100+ participants across all media, it’s also an opportunity to meet and network with artists from all over the country, from under-the-radar newcomers to today’s art icons.
Just some of this year’s participants include carnivalian collective Art of Such N’ Such, fresh off their 2009 Bonnaroo performance, eco-chic fashion designer Rene Geneva, recently named Best Local Fashion Designer at the Austin Fashion Awards, blues/vintage rock outfit The Golden Animals, Fort Knox Five, Freq Nasty, DIY workshops by The WonderCraft, Comedy by Reggie Watts and Adira Amram, food by Ararat and Happy Vegan Baker and many more. *visit website for full line-up/line-up is subject to change.
We look forward to reviewing your wild, wonderful creations. With a tradition of showcasing groundbreaking talent on breathtaking grounds, Art Outside has hosted artists and art appreciators since 2004. Founded at Austin Enchanted Forest, Art Outside began as a small gathering of creative souls, and expanded into a destination event for visitors near and far. We pay homage to the Enchanted Forest as we spread our wings over a new landscape, Apache Pass, where we can host more art than ever before. An inspiring expanse of beautiful central Texas landscape, Apache Pass will offer music performance areas, a cantilevered stage, artist tents, camping grounds for full-weekend participants, food and drink vendors. A limited amount of advance 3-day passes are now available for purchase on the website. To learn more, please visit Art Outside-www.artoutside.org.

No, not really. But I might as well. Yesterday while sewing up a cloth diaper my Huskystar started going wonky.

Making crazy noises and balled up pieces of thread everywhere! I called the closest sewing shop- went through a few check points and then brought her in today. They’ll get in touch once the problem is identified. I just hope it can be fixed for an inexpensive price. It seems we sit down 2 x a month to go over our budget and see what we’ll be saving and every time the amount ends up being less than what we thought…because there is always something popping up!
Even though I am trying to raise Hazel with less stuff- there always seems to be a new toy or educational addition we could use. I am hoping that all of these items will get used again with either our next child or a friend’s child.
So while the Huskystar is in the shop:
-I am going to work on writing a month of dinners, then shop for just what we need.
-Trying to make some jam and then can it.
-Pin some-to-be-sewn items.
-Order those much needed baby items
Be well Huskystar, there is a place for you on my sewing table if you choose to return to us!

One night, or morning- depending on where you are, I was searching Etsy randomly and came across Adrianchristian. This sweet little shop was offering adorable crocheted berets, necklaces made from soft, jersey cotton and other lovelies like jewelry. She also was offering a BOGO sale in addition to free shipping!! Can you believe it- I hit the jackpot! I felt very lucky to also be her first sale! How exciting is that?! I was able to choose the beret colors specifically (plum & butter) and when they arrived this gorgeous necklace was included as was the nifty packaging! Please check out her shop and take advantage of her gorgeous berets! I’ve been trying not to wear mine in the 90 degree weather!

we’ve spent some time on blankets,in the baby pool, at the park with friends and basically stretching the rest of the summer.

Last week I saw a great friend on her way heading to Peru for a year.

On Laura’s reccomendation, we visited Green Chimneys to see all of the animals. We also scouted out the area of Brewster for possible homes for sale.

Then we trekked up to Lake Superior State Park to see my college roommate and her family.

great catching up- it had been nearly 8+ years!!
In shop talk- we’ve been getting ready for Autumn and our yearly Christmas in September Sale! Zach has been working his fingers to the bone- to bring you sweet and unique button bags. I’ve got some of the faceless femme coffee cuffs and a few surprises. I also need to take my sewing machine if for a service. IT has started to behave badly.

The End
Have a great week!
pictures get me through- books as well. when I have something I need to work on or work through- having a great quote and an inspirational photo can get me through to the other side. here are a few of my favorites from the last few days- which will no doubt get me through today and an even longer Friday. Enjoy!

my niece Jenny, helping me try Hazel’s pumpkin Halloween costume on her. It was too small, H couldn’t move her legs and was rolling all around. laughter ensues.

baby toes in the sand- enough said.

Misquamicut Beach, almost sun down.

favorite pair of sunglasses,my new favorite and inspiring read and the NY Times Style Magazine.
last night I cut and pinned 1/2 a dozen or more coffee cuffs. it felt good to be back in the saddle. so much more to do. in quick news on my tummy troubles (said in a whisper) i may have had a breakthrough. fingers crossed xo
Updated story on CBS – Following The Trail Of Toxic E-Waste @ 60 Minutes…
(CBS) This story was first published on Nov. 9, 2008. It was updated on Aug. 27, 2009. 60 Minutes is going to take you to one of the most toxic places on Earth — a place that government officials and gangsters don’t want you to see. It’s a town in China where you can’t breathe the air or drink the water, a town where the blood of the children is laced with lead. It’s worth risking a visit because, as correspondent Scott Pelley first reported last November, much of the poison is coming out of the homes, schools and offices of America. This is a story about recycling – about how your best intentions to be green can be channeled into an underground sewer that flows from the United States and into the wasteland.

Max writes in:
My former employer who does audio tours is emptying out their warehouse and is throwing out a couple hundred walkmans. They are already in a dumpster by their office and will probably be picked up sometime tomorrow. I send you this information in the hopes you know someone close to Marin (Sausalito) who might have interest enough to dig them out and save them from the landfill for mello-tronic projects and the like.
They’re located out at Fort Cronkhite in the Marin Headlands.

I’m just excited. The neighbor’s mower is going, the trees are slightly changing, NPR on in the bedroom and a little babe humming and talking to herself on the floor. My blogging has the watchful eye of Hermione, hovering over me on the couch. This Wednesday, Hazel will be 9 months. It is cliche- but it really seems like yesterday. With a sleepless fog of the last 9 months, I am amazed at how we are making it through. Getting by and still managing to have some fun.

In the shoppe, we have started adding handmade goodness for our Christmas in September Sale. We’ll be offering free domestic shipping with a Buy One, Get One on select items. Start early and beat the browser rush! Zach has also been sewing away on some new & old favorite button bags to be used for anything- from carrying your latest knitting project, your lunch or as an eco-friendly loot bag alternative. Once I retrieve my camera from my brother’s house (where I promptly forgot it after a mere 3 sips of Pumpkin Juice(ale)) I will share pictures of the new goods.
Also for Fall, I’ll have some new Vagabond Scarves to keep you cozy as the cooler weather settles in. Yup we’re all that and a bag of chips!

Maybe I’ll ring in the season or pre-season with some sort of frothy, pumpkiny beverage.

::::Here is how I fixed the tag issue on my Carter’s clothing::::
Muslin+thread+ fabric marker = this

Yesterday was exactly one month till my *due date*. Forgive me for constantly talking about how I can’t believe it. When I say to Zach ( as I hold up a newborn onesie)
“Can you believe we are going to have someone in the house this small?” he says “Yes, I know”. I guess he too is scared and excited.. but doesn’t vocalize it as much. I’ve read sometimes men don’t bond with the baby till they are born. Whereas I bonded I think before the first kick- at the first sonogram. I think he’ll be a great father, he loves playing with toys for starters!
In the craft world- there is someone whose work is so beautiful and inspiring. I regularly read her blog and look at her shop with yearning. With two little ones- she finds the time to make gorgeous quilted goodness. She’s having a giveaway- where by linking here it adds me to become a possible JCASA quilt winner! The fabrics she uses are so crisp and pretty. I can only hope one day I’ll learn to quilt with such skill! One of my favorites from her new quilt is the tiny pink clothesline fabric- who thinks of this adorable stuff?! I think my favorite colors would be a brown, green and maybe orange together.(thinking fall) I wonder if that could work? Maybe yellow?
Last weekend I mentioned going thrifting and getting some sheets::::

::3 Full- Size Flat Sheets:: One day I hope to make a skirt and maybe a tote and something for Hazel and pillows and, and, and….
We also found this Sesame Street Twin sheet set:::

This is one of the little crafts I made a few years back. It is a Styrofoam cone- covered in fabric and then decorated to look like a holiday tree. I used some tape measure for the bottom trim. I’ll be posting a tutorial in the next week or so, along with a scrap garland tutorial. They’re both very easy- but I am a visual learner- maybe you are too.

I felt like I needed to take this silly photo- just to have..

:::A little project I started this past week::::

Happy Halloween all you Tricksters~

Maybe next year Hazel can sport this little costume, by Beckaboo!
She has a great shop
full of monsters!
:::I hope you have plans for a wonderful candy coma or a silly costume party or maybe just a horror fest on the couch with your special someone- either way enjoy the moment!

Yay! We reached our 300th sale this past weekend! So exciting! It has been a long road of handmade goodness.I’m so thankful to all of our beloved customers~
I’ve been trying to figure out what steps to take for the next few weeks/months for our shop. I hate to get rid of custom orders, but alas I need to. They take a lot of time and effort and I am just not sure what the next year will bring (aside from giggles, cuddling and some dirty diapers). So I think the only option is to freeze our custom orders for now.

The Vagabond Scarves will be in the shop by Friday, October 31st. I urge you to take a gander!Different sizes & colors.
Tonight we’ll carve our pumpkins. One from the market- the other from my husband’s step-father’s garden. At some point today I will be picking up Halloween candy.(what to get- what to get- maybe sending a preggo isn’t the best idea!?) This will be the first year we’ll actually have some Trick or Treaters! I’m so excited! We also have our costumes to work on for the Halloween party on Saturday. Plus, I need to finish up the birthday girl’s gifts and get started on a few coffee cuffs as Thank-You gifts. A lot to do. I’m already feeling out of breath! I’ve opened most of the windows to entertain the kitties and let the fresh air in. Last night I was very sick, so I’m trying to get a lot done but in a mosey sort of way. No actual time constraints!! For an easy-on-the-tummy dinner I’m making soup.
What are your plans?
